The boys of summer have returned as Baltimore-native Rickie Jacobs has released new music. His new song, which is appropriately titled “Homerun Freestyle”, is full of heavy-hitting punch lines. Jacobs delivers some clever wordplay with gems like “You can’t touchdown in my city, I got corners,” (think football). The track will be featured on a special compilation tape coming soon, following the success of Baltimore’s #OnDeckUnder30 event held in January. In true freestyle form, Jacobs uses the smooth-sounding Assassin MC-produced beat to proclaim his emergence in the game, while declaring his music as “food for the spirit.” Jacobs’ flow is unique and he raps with a lisp, but that doesn’t take away from the talent. It may be too early to say Rickie Jacobs is hitting homeruns, but this new single solidifies his footing on first base. Patrick Dennis Jr.
