OBEY stays true to its original street style this spring/summer season, while fusing in colour, chromatics, prints and texture for the warmer weather. The collection pushes boundaries, something OBEY designer/founder Shepard Fairey is accustomed to doing. He took his work off of traditional canvases and onto graphic T-shirts, sweaters and hats in 2000, when he launched the street wear line. It has continued to grow ever since.

“We’re not just chasing a trend and selling a trend, we have a meaning and message behind the brand that resonates with a lot of people.” – Andrea Ciccone, OBEY

“The brand has evolved from more than just tees,” explains Andrea Ciccone, territory sales manager for OBEY in Ontario. “… We’re not just chasing a trend and selling a trend, we have a meaning and message behind the brand that resonates with a lot of people.”

From knits and wovens to fleece, Ciccone promises the new collection has something for men and women alike who are looking to add a little OBEY flare to their closet this season.

Menswear: Athletic or preppy, OBEY’s got you
The spring/summer collection offers the laid back man of today a variety of athletic styled Ts and polo shirts that range from button ups to pull overs. Standout pieces for the season would include the line of classic button up polo tops that range in pattern, colour and texture, along with the baseball inspired button up white-on-white shirt. The soft jersey material mimics that of an authentic baseball jersey from overall look to touch.

Women’s Wear: For the vintage lover in you
OBEY’s women’s apparel is often overlooked. But by taking a vintage approach to its classic moto jackets, and debuting its use of authentic suede, the line will gain some deserving attention.

A stand out piece from this season is a deep, forest green moto suede jacket with silver snaps on the lapels and cuffs. OBEY proves with this jacket alone that it isn’t about sticking to fashion norms as the deeper colour goes against the typical light and bright trend of the season. Furthermore the outerwear collection uses pebble-textured vegan leather to emulate a biker’s jacket look and feel.
