Making a statement with asymmetric lines and the fusion of bold metallic upon bright colours, is what had heads turning and cameras snapping at the Claudette Floyd Fall/Winter 2014/2015 collection showing at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week.

The show began with a shimmering number, which had many in awe of what the Montreal brand had to offer. It showcased a Jackie-O style cape paired with its accompanying mini-flared dress. Designer, Claudette Floyd, not only wants to bring sexy hemlines and see-through materials to the runway, but she combines the two risqué styles with sophistication. An array of tailored pantsuits, floor length dresses with below rib cage necklines, this season’s popular calf length flared skirts and dresses with asymmetrical cut coats were highlights of Floyd’s collection. With the use of wide bellowed coat arms, rounded shoulder-to-shoulder coat collars and detailed embroidery on the lapels, hems and back of the coats, Floyd’s designs fuse sophistication and sexy.

Bringing out the flirty girl in today’s sophisticated lady, the collection’s use of fun, flared dresses, skirts and sleeves makes for a fun and elegant combination. The statement colours of black, white, grey and chocolate brown provide an overall look and feel of mature sophistication.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS COLLECTION? I started with my bag which was my baby, it was the first time I did a bag collection, and then I tried to take the colours from there and tried to make them a little more wearable, but at the same time trendy, but not too trendy. So it was a combination of just trying to mix everything in one so that a woman that’s super chic can rock it, and a little rocker girl can rock it also. I wanted to play it up and down kind of.

HOW DO YOU WANT WOMEN TO FEEL IN YOUR COLLECTION? Sexy for one, and comfortable, because if you’re not comfortable in anything for one, then you can’t rock it that’s for sure.

WHAT IS TO COME FROM CLAUDETTE FLOYD NEXT? Continue developing my bag line, hopefully a lingerie line, just to make it more complete. It’s more like a lifestyle collection I’m trying to create, because we have Rush Couture [which] is more gowns and stuff like that, so we decided to do a signature label, which is more wearable jackets, tailoring and stuff like that.
