The harsh reality of this world is many of us at some point will have cancer touch our lives, whether it be a friend, family member or dealing with the disease personally. Somehow the pain and heartbreak it causes is always in arms’ reach. UK emcee Lady Leshurr delivers a heartfelt letter to her sister in the form of “Carmen” on this topic. She described it as the “hardest song I’ve ever had to make.” Filled with regret, hurt and inspiration, Lady Leshurr doesn’t hold anything back.

Usually known for her high-energy, upbeat and witty delivery, Lady Leshurr once again shows her versatility as an artist.

Spilling her pain through her lyrics, Leshurr says, “Losing a sibling’s heartbreaking / And I never thought you would not make it / Kept the faith and didn’t stop praying / Till my arms are aching.” With home video footage of her sister and scenes from the funeral, the emotions evoked through the song and accompanying visuals are powerful.

Usually known for her high-energy, upbeat and witty delivery, Lady Leshurr once again shows her versatility as an artist, even under such heavy circumstances. One thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain, but for many, me included, “Carmen” hits close to home and leaves a mark.
