Outside of traveling to and from work or school, what else could a streetcar be used for? For most, the last thing that may come to mind would be a sneaker store.
But that’s exactly what Nike has created – transforming a Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)
streetcar into a mobile pop-up shop for die-hard sneakerheads to indulge in during the 2016 NBA All-Star weekend.
Toronto won’t be the only city with an exclusive sneaker heaven on wheels this weekend; Los Angeles, New York and Chicago will also participate in limited time experience.
The shop is an all grey cable car with the words “Nike SNKRS XPRESS” plastered on the side in white and red letters alongside the classic Nike swish of course. The streetcar, which travels along Toronto’s Queen Street West, is fittingly dubbed “the ultimate sneaker destination,” by Nike.
Each seat is numbered from one to 15 and named after a NBA player, and is accented with a different sneaker placed in a clear protective glass case. Outside of a few bumps and potholes, it’s easy to forget that you’re on a streetcar.
Riders are encouraged to relax, enjoy the ride, and of course, stock up on the exclusive sneakers available on board, including the Horizon PRM Modern Made Jordans and the LeBron XIII Royalty sneakers.
The SNKRS XPRESS is every sneakerhead’s fantasy, but it may make some people who dub themselves ‘sneakerheads’ eat their words. With new sneakers dropping on each of the four days, it will cost a pretty penny to keep up all the latest styles, vibrant colors and designs.
All the spots available this weekend have been booked, but if the shoe obsessed get their wish, the SNKRS XPRESS will roll back through town in the near future.
