The last time 32 producers took to the Battle of the Beat Makers stage, a 15-year-old girl named WondaGurl took the crown. A year later her name appeared on the liner credits of Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album for her production work on “Crown”.

So who is going to take the title this year?

The decision lies with three hip-hop heavyweight’s – NYC spitter Joell Ortiz of Shady Records’ super rap group Slaughterhouse, and two of ATL’s young producer phenoms – Metro Boomin’ (Future, Ludacris, Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Wiz Khalifa) and Sonny Digital (2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Travis Porter, Kanye West).

It all goes down during the ninth annual producer retreat, Battle of the Beat Makers, November 7 to 9 in downtown Toronto, presented by Sound Supremacy Entertainment in partnership with Urbanology Magazine. This monumental battle was a launching pad for some of the city’s finest hip-hop producers including past winners Grammy-Award winning Boi-1Da, T-Minus, Big Pops, Mvgic, Gigz and Amsterdam’s Neenah.

“I’m looking for producers who have their own sound, who are not just following the trend,” shared Joell Ortiz in an interview with Toronto’s DJ Mel Boogie on the Droppin’ Dimez radio show. “In the first 15 seconds I can tell if the beat is wack.” Ortiz will take to the stage for a special performance for all the hip-hop heads in the audience at the weekend’s main event.

Sound Supremacy Entertainment’s Producer Retreat Weekend kicks off Friday, November 7, 2014 with an industry meet and greet with this year’s 32 qualifying producers – RSVP for location.
