A night of love, positivity and art will leave a lasting impression on Toronto. R.I.S.E (Reaching Intelligent Souls Everywhere) Edutainment celebrates its 2nd year anniversary of 416RISE at Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park tonight. The night will be filled with performances by the city’s most talented singers, rappers and spoken word poets.
The organization was founded, two years ago, on April 16. The numerology of RISE’s start date (4.16) happens to coincide with the area code of Toronto. RISE Edutainment started with RISE Poetry, a weekly open-mic event in the city’s east end, which invites youth to express their creative voice and develop artistic and innovative leadership skills.
With many special guests, including mayoral candidate Olivia Chow in attendance, the show will begin with a panel of Toronto’s leading community and art members including Gavin Sheppard (CEO of The Remix Project), Che Kothari (Founder of Manifesto) and Michael Prosserman (Founder of Unity Charity).
The panel will be followed by keynote speeches and performances from many notables including nationally known poet, d’bi.young, and Canada’s hip-hop godfather, Maestro Fresh Wes.
