Earlier sunsets, chilly mornings and changing leaves all mean one thing: fall has arrived. With cooler temperatures officially in season, today’s fashion trendsetter need not dread parkas, heavy boots and bundling up in general.

Fall equates to chic layering, eye-popping patterns and natural hues for the modern fashionista. The sidewalk is her catwalk. For the 2015 fall season, the sassy ’70s seem to be making a comeback, arriving with a little modern flare to kick-off the season with minimalist colours of black, white and grey.

From chunky platform boots and open-toe stilettos to fringe, vests and patchwork, the psychedelic era makes its rounds on this fall’s fashion radar. Celebrity stylist Danielle Tavia gives us her take on the blast from the past fashion trends that are making their rounds from stores to sidewalks this season.

BellBottomBell-Bottoms // “I love them! I just think they’re sexy. We’ve had skinny jeans for so long, in love with the wide leg pants also, but there’s something about bell-bottoms that hugs you in the right places. It so ’70s, it’s so cool, it just gives you that whole ’70s free, hippy vibe. Of course you need to make sure you have the right fit for you, but it’s just very comfortable, stylish – they’re versatile.”

FringeFringe // “I love fringe! I’ve always been in love with fringe. I feel like fringe is coming back in with full force. You cannot go anywhere without seeing a picture of fringe or someone wearing fringe … They have the fringe skirts that are really sexy. They have the fringe vests that could go great with the bell-bottoms, and they even have the bag. It could be a bag that is over the shoulder, or a strappy one that falls on the waist. I think fringe is awesome; it comes in different colours, sizes, clothes, accessories. You name it, you can fringe it, and I love it.”

WideBrimHatWide-Brim Hats // “Well I love a hat and I feel like fall is the perfect time [for one] … wide brim hats are very artsy. I feel like they give you the artist vibe and I think it’s something easy if you’re having a bad hair day and don’t want to do too much – just put on your hat and go. Or if you’re going out at night, same thing, it’s a good fit and a smooth transition, and it goes with a lot of outfits, almost everything. You see JLo do it, you see Beyoncé do it, it’s so fashionable and it’s one of those things you can wear to a day out running some errands or to an event. Wide brim hats are really cool, I love hats.”
