Every season, Urbanology receives invites to preview the collections of a variety of fashion brands – from formal wear to street wear, and everything in between.

When we received our invite to preview the spring/summer collection of GUESS, we decided to hook up with songstress beauty Cory Lee – a self-proclaimed fan of the brand – and have her highlight what caught her eye most for our readers.

Between the fringe, floral, lace and pleats that remain on trend this season, here is a look at what Cory Lee is looking to add to her closet.

Denim // “Denim is huge and it’s fitting that we’re here at GUESS, because GUESS does amazing denim. [I’m] all about the distressed zippers, it’s basically like we’re back in the ’90s. And GUESS is so good at jeans,” says Lee, rocking her favourite cropped leather moto jacket from the iconic brand.

Admitting to having a chest full of denim, Lee is in awe of the collection’s array of trendy jeans with its appealing acid washes and retro high waists.

What particularly stands out about the acid wash effect is that when paired with a fitting blazer and any one of the line’s array of brightly coloured accessories, ranging from statement neck pieces to bracelets, and a fitting blazer, it can transform a day outfit into one that’s fit for a night out on the town.

Lace // “Nice to pair with something baggy and distressed. Lace is huge,” says Lee, adding her favourite piece from the new collection is a black lace sleeveless bodysuit that has a low V-neck, giving off a risqué plunge and see through effect.

Jumpers // Reminding the songstress of the ’90s era, she says the long sleeve, button-up jumper is a staple among the new collection. It brings back the classic era with a new kick of the acid wash effect. “The jumper is much alive. Women always love a jumper, I love jumpers so much.”

The Colour White // Amazed by the illusion pleat effect fit and flare dress, and a versatile strapless, short white romper, Lee agrees with the collection’s choice to put white at the forefront for the warmer weather to come.

“You don’t have to wait after or before Labour Day to wear white. It works whenever and throughout all seasons. Especially now, white is alive and well.”

Also taking illusion to new heights is GUESS’ white fitted bodice with a flared skirt dress, which gives the impression of pleats on the skirt, however it’s black lines run from the waist to hem. Accompanied with black accents around the chest and shoulders, and a single gold button on each side, the flirty summer dress looks like it’s straight out of a seaside dream.

Fringe Shoes // Lee loves what GUESS has to offer with its heel department where fringe is making its way to feet. The collection’s black fringe heels are one of the singer’s favourite – in fact, she says every female deserves a pair to bless her feet.

“I think it’s having a moment. It has for a while because it has been on everything from jackets to handbags. Everyone needs fringy, sexy heels.”
