Amidst the excitement of day 2 of World MasterCard Fashion Week (WMCFW), designers displayed one reoccurring trend definitely appealing to the eye: asymmetrical prints and cut outs. Not stopping at futuristic cuts, colour was also a common theme amongst the night’s fashion forwards, on and off the runway. Fashion goers, despite Mother Nature’s continuous call for colder weather conditions, doted in white and pastel colours, seemed to boldly say one thing: spring has sprung.
Keeping that energy alive mid-evening was Project Runway alumni Sunny Fong with his VAWK collection, which featured an array of thigh-high cuts and plunging necklines. “My inspiration was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, I love the colours,” says Fong, referencing the popular Pixar film. Fong, who brought a whimsical approach to the runway, collaborated with sandwich chain SUBWAY to bring a unique leafy touch to his pieces this season.
Wrapping up the night was Mélissa Nepton’s clean cuts, which showcased tailored fits in everything from suits to extravagant coats for the chillier season coming later this year. Taking the colour palette further, Nepton accompanied soft pastels into their asymmetrical textiles to produce playful jumpsuits, edgy vests and sexy dresses. Her use of pastels against warmer fabrics such as wool and thick cotton prove that summer colours can be transitioned into the fall.
Outfit of the Day
Defiantly have to give it up for Mélissa Nepton’s colour blocked calf-length dress with its high collar and wrist-length sleeves. The four colours of grey, white, orange and pink suited the garment well and emphasized the idea of bright colours for winter. Best Suited For: Work and winter play.
