#BigTicket, a monthly hip-hop showcase in Toronto celebrated its two-year anniversary with a packed lineup of its finest alumni performing. It was all love between artists who were embracing each other’s music and were extremely grateful for the chance this event gave them.
“It’s a home for hip-hop in the city,” said #BigTicket founder, Chris Jackson. He has been extremely happy with how the first two years have progressed, aiming to set a good example for other Toronto hip-hop shows.
“Part of our mandate starting out was to dispel the myth about hip-hop events and how they never start when they’re supposed to. #BigTicket, we run on time and we have a lot of fun.”
Due to the amount of performers, each artist was only given one or two songs to make an impression on the packed venue. #BigTicket has always been about promoting all forms of hip-hop, with each set uniquely amping up the audience. Performers included Saukrates, King Reign, Erik Flowchild, Connected By Blood and KemiKal.
“#BigTicket is dope because it’s different from a lot of other events. They try to put on dope artists at their event to push you. Some other events they just put on anybody, #BigTicket keep it pro,” said Flip Dollaz of Connected By Blood, who set the venue ablaze with the smokers’ anthem “The Purp”.

“I love what it’s doing and where it is now, compared to when it first got started. I’m super happy I was a part of it from in the beginning,” said KemiKal, who Jackson described as “Mr. #BigTicket”. The Toronto-born artist performed at the third ever Big Ticket event, and keeps returning to perform.
The host for the night Dan-e-o was very adamant about his love for the fact that this event has been running for 24 months, the positive vibes it brings and thanked every audience member and organizing team member that helped make the event possible. The event ran smoothly, with DJ Law, DJ Grouch and Mel Boogie all taking turns on the ones and twos for #BigTicket’s second birthday.
