Strapped with baseball bats and black bandanas, Brampton, Ont. trio EMP create a flash mob in the cinematic video for their debut single, “Rebellion”.

The group — comprised of producer Eestbound, vocalist Pree and rapper Milly Manson — has been steadily building a name in Toronto. They’ve been plastered on Roots billboards as part of the Sweatstyle campaign this year, which highlights rising Canadian artists. Not to mention Eestbound shares production credits alongside WondaGurl on Travis $cott’s “Antidote”.

The mesh of the individual styles comes together effortlessly as EMP gears up to stamp their name in the arm of Canadian hip-hop.

In the video, EMP channels the rebellious spirit of their generation, which has used methods such as protests and social media to raise awareness about a wide range of social injustices, as they march through Toronto’s Kensington Market, armed with baseball bats, black flags and bandanas.

When the video begins, the group members are on the phone, plotting where to meet up. As the beat drops, each member is shown with their individual crews striding through the dimly lit streets before assembling altogether. Visually, it’s comparable to the film The Purge, minus the gore and the violence.

The song matches those visuals. Pree’s vocals wrap themselves around the deep, growling saw-synth commonly associated with the “Toronto sound”. The power in her voice rises as the beat does, setting up Eestbound’s sing-rap bridge to layer itself over the aggression of the drop. Laced in auto-tune, Milly Manson raps as though he has something to prove. The mesh of the individual styles comes together effortlessly as EMP gears up to stamp their name in the arm of Canadian hip-hop.
